Not able to send or receive text messages.

Not able to send or receive SMS text messages after changing the Sim card ?

Yesterday I purchased a new HTC Desire 626 Dual SIM and since it uses a nano Sim card instead of the regular one (that I was using with my Samsung Galaxy Core I8262) I went to the Airtel outlet to get the Sim changed with the same number. They were very friendly bunch of people. I hadn’t remembered to take along my ID and they didn’t want me to go back all the way in order to get an ID with a photo. So the let me download my passport scans from my email account, they took the printouts, filled up all the forms and changed the Sim card to the nano version at no cost. The service person told me that the new card would activate within 4-5 hours.

Whereas the card got activated around midnight I couldn’t see or send SMSes (text messages). I was trying to purchase something online and I receive a one-time password for authentication. Upon multiple tries when I did receive the password I suspected there was something wrong with my SMS service. I did an online bank transfer in order to purchase the item I was trying to purchase (that doesn’t require SMS-based one-time password authentication) but in the morning when I tried to send an SMS to another person, I continuously got the message that the SMS couldn’t be sent. I fiddled with the phone for a while. I also did some searches on Google and many people were facing the same problem after switching to a different phone. I thought there was something wrong with my new HTC Desire 626 Dual SIM. I’m very reluctant to call the call center but I mustered enough courage and called them.

The person on the other side told me there was nothing wrong in my phone. Whenever a Sim card is changed like this, it takes up to 72 hours for the SMS text service to resume. That was the case. I wasn’t able to send or receive text messages because they aren’t yet active on my Sim card. So if you’re facing similar problem, rest assured, it might not be your phone. Wait for 72 hours and then start worrying if you still cannot use your SMS service.

Please Note that :
  • If You have changed the Airtel / !dea / Telenor / or any other Sim Card then it will take Approxmetly 4-5 hrs to Activate the new Sim card.
  • After Activation you can make Calls & use Internet ( If internet pack Is available ) only.
  • If You have changed the Airtel / !dea / Telenor / or any other Sim Card then it will take Approxmetly 72hrs. to Start the SMS text Service.
